Join us as we read through the Gospel of Luke during this Advent Season...
By Cecilia Gibbs, Assistant Principal Rock Solid Christian Academy

Luke 1: 1-80

As we begin the Advent Season, I'd like to invite all of you to join me in a special challenge: to take time each day to read through the Gospel of Luke. As we explore this beautiful Gospel together, we'll read a chapter a day, completing our study with Luke Chapter 24 on Christmas Eve.

As you may know, the apostle Luke was thought to be a Gentile by birth, well educated in Greek culture, a physician by profession, and a close companion of Paul. "Luke was an evangelist, a historian, a physician, a pastor, a missionary, a companion, a brother, and a theologian. His goal and purpose in writing a gospel was to write exact truth concerning Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation, an infallible history and theology inspired by the Holy Spirit..." (Liz Kanoy, https://www.crosswalk.com/faith/bible-study/5-things-to-know-about-luke-from-the-bible.html)

Luke's Gospel was written specifically to Theophilus (1:3), whose name means "one who loves God." Although Luke's Gospel was initially directed to Theophilus, it was written to strengthen the faith of ALL believers. My prayer for us is that through the daily reading of Luke's beautiful message, we will be strengthened in our faith and love for Christ.

So, let's begin...

Luke 1 begins with the announcement of John the Baptist's birth to his father, Zacharias. I can relate to Zacharias as he struggles to believe the words of the angel, Gabriel.

Luke also recounts the announcement to Mary of Christ's birth and the "Song of Mary" in Luke 1: 47-55 fills us with encouragement and hope. "...My soul has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant...For He who is mighty has done great things for me. And holy is His name."

I hope as you read through Luke Chapter 1, you'll be inspired by God's truth and the knowledge that God hears your prayers!
