Join us as we read through the Gospel of Luke during this Advent Season...
By Cecilia Gibbs, Assistant Principal Rock Solid Christian Academy Luke 13: 1-35 Today we are reading from Luke 13: 1-35. Jesus continues to teach through parables, heals a crippled woman, speaks about salvation, and expresses sorrow for Jerusalem. I love the story of the mustard seed. Jesus asks, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches." And again He said, "To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened.” (Luke 13: 18-19 NIV) As you may know, the size of a mustard seed is about 1 to 2 mm (0.039 to 0.079 in) in diameter. That is quite small! On the other hand, the mustard tree grows to about 9 feet in height. What’s even more amazing is that this plant grows to this size in a single growing season! “ “But there are few plants which grow so large in one season as a mustard tree, and few plants would be characterized by such rapid germination of the seed. Mustard planted one day could begin growing the next!” (https://ww2.odu.edu/~lmusselm/plant/bible/mustard.php) I want my faith to grow like a mustard seed. I want my love for Christ to grow like a mustard seed. I want my desire to love and serve others to grow like a mustard seed. My prayer for us today is that our spiritual growth will take off just like the newly planted mustard seed! “May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.” 1 Thessalonians 3:12 Comments are closed.
