Join us as we read through the Gospel of Luke during this Advent Season... By Cecilia Gibbs, Assistant Principal Rock Solid Christian Academy Luke 10: 1-42 Today we’re reading from Luke Chapter 10: 1-42. Jesus sends out the seventy-two disciples, teaches about the Good Samaritan, and Luke describes Christ’s visit to Mary and Martha. In verses 38, Luke tells us Christ is traveling with His disciples and stops at a village to visit the house of Mary and Martha. Martha is scurrying around, working on all the preparations for their guests. Meanwhile, Mary stops everything to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to Him teach. Martha becomes quite exasperated and says, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” Jesus answers, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10: 38-42 NIV) I never get tired of reading about the story of Mary and Martha. It is so easy to look at all we do (even in ministry) and to criticize those who don’t seem to do as much. Martha’s real problem wasn’t Mary; it was Martha. Essentially, she had become distracted and had taken her eyes off Jesus. Distractions are such a part of our lives. Whether it’s our own busy-ness, or the season, there always seems to be something that pulls us away from Christ. My prayer for us today is that we would “choose what is better,” and take time every day to sit at the feet of Jesus. "One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.” (Psalm 27: 4) Join us as we celebrate the season with our first annual Christmas Open House!
