Join us as we read through the Gospel of Luke during this Advent Season... By Cecilia Gibbs, Assistant Principal Rock Solid Christian Academy Luke 6: 1-49 Today we are reading from Luke 6: 1-49. As I read through this chapter I felt a bit overwhelmed with all the information - Luke covers so much in these 49 verses! He discusses how Christ deals with issues pertaining to the Sabbath, the twelve apostles are chosen, the Beatitudes are presented, and so much more! In my reading I was drawn to two particular verses: Luke 6: 12-13a. "Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself..." I love the picture this brings to mind: Jesus spending an entire night praying and seeking His Father's blessing for the people he will select for His ministry. And after a night of prayer, our Lord calls these disciples to HIMSELF! How beautiful that every day our Lord continues to care for us, calling us by name and drawing us to Himself. "The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” (John 10: 3-5 NIV) Listen for His voice as our Lord calls you to Himself today!
