Luke 3: 1-37

Today we're in Luke Chapter 3. In this book, Luke tells us more about John the Baptist and his ministry, describes the baptism of Jesus, and traces our Lord's genealogy.

Many of us are fascinated with knowing about family roots, and tracing our genealogy has become a popular pastime for many people today. We all share a deep need to understand who we are and where we came from. This desire becomes even stronger as we attempt to navigate a world growing increasingly more crowded and anonymous. We want so much to feel connected.

As Luke traces Christ's genealogy all the way back to God, the Father, he demonstrates this undeniable truth:  Jesus belongs to all mankind, not just to the Jewish people.

"When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

As you read through Luke 3 today, be encouraged to know you have a special inheritance and connection to our Lord, Jesus Christ. He sought you, He sustains you, and He lovingly watches over you!

"For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." Galatians 3:26-29
