Join us as we read through the Gospel of Luke during this Advent Season...
By Cecilia Gibbs, Assistant Principal Rock Solid Christian Academy Luke 20: 1-47 Today we are reading from Luke 20: 1-47. Jesus Christ teaches in the temple in Jerusalem, replying to questions raised by the Pharisees and Sadducees. Throughout this chapter Jesus deals with the elders who continue to confront and badger Him. Luke 20: 45-47 was of particular interest to me today: “While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.’” While reading these words, I asked God to examine my heart. How authentic is my walk with Christ? Do I exhibit a heart of humility toward others? How do I view people who have less than me? Am I generous toward those less fortunate than me? Is there any unrepentant sin I need to take to the Father? The list of questions could go on… My prayer for us as we read through these verses today is that we would heed Christ’s warning and strive for a life of integrity in Him. “I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:1-3 ESV) Be blessed with Christ's peace today!
