Luke 9: 1-62
Today we’re reading from Luke Chapter 9: 1-62. In this Chapter Jesus sends out the twelve, feeds five thousand, is transfigured on a mountain top, miraculously heals a boy, predicts His death, and speaks about the cost of discipleship. Whew!
Verses 43-44 were of particular interest to me in my reading. Everyone is amazed at the remarkable healing of the boy and are talking about it. Meanwhile, Jesus turns to His disciples and predicts His death to them. He says, “Let these words sink down into your ears, for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.” (Luke 9: 44 NKJV)
The disciples do not understand what Jesus is saying, but rather than ask for clarification, they say nothing. I think the disciples must have felt so sad they were afraid to ask for an explanation from Christ. There have been so my times in my own life when I needed to go to Christ with my questions or concerns, but chose not to out of fear.
My prayer for us today is that we will see Christ’s outstretched arms and run to Him with anything that concerns us. As Charles Spurgeon writes, “Do not you think that you and I may have tonight, something pressing upon us that would all vanish if we but took it to Jesus?"
Be encouraged that our Lord is available any time and that no concern is too big or too small for Him!
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4: 6-7 NKJV)
