Join us as we read through the Gospel of Luke during this Advent Season... By Cecilia Gibbs, Assistant Principal Rock Solid Christian Academy Luke 5: 1-39 Today we’re reading from Luke Chapter 5. In this chapter Luke relates the recruitment of Christ’s first disciples, and continues describing Jesus’ teaching as well as His ministry of healing. Jesus also encounters criticism from the Jewish religious leaders on the question of fasting. In the beginning of Chapter 5, Jesus meets Simon Peter, gets into his boat, and teaches to a huge crowd of people from the water’s edge. After He completes his teaching, Jesus tells Peter to, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch. Interestingly, Peter obeys without question. Although Peter was an experienced fisherman and hadn’t caught any fish all day, he honors Christ’s command. He answers, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5: 5 NIV) Because of Peter’s obedience, he receives a tremendous blessing - Jesus turns an empty boat into an overflowing one! My prayer for us today is that much like Simon Peter we would be listening for God’s voice and be quick to respond to Him with obedience: even in the smallest matters. May we respond without hesitation, or question, and without fear! Psalm 25: 4-5 “Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long." Join us as we celebrate the season with our first annual Christmas Open House!
